Senate leader Mitch McConnell is moving closing to a ‘nuclear option’ to push through White House judicial nominees.
Lamenting what he called “unprecedented obstruction” from Democrats, McConnell introduced a resolution that would cut the debate time for judges and other White House nominees from 30 hours down to just two hours. If passed, the new rule would not apply to Supreme Court or Cabinet nominees.
A floor vote on the resolution is planned for next week but would likely fail. That failure would allow McConnell to invoke Senate rules that could push it through with 51 votes instead of 60.
