While it made for an entertaining story, Florida police have admitted their account of a bumbling bandit who stole a Disney Magic Band was just a fractured fairy tale.
On Thursday, Winter Park police tweeted about a home burglary in which the thief netted a Disney Magic Band, which gives Disney World visitors unlimited access to the theme park’s rides. Accompanying the post was a photo of the suspect, grinning from ear-to-ear as he enjoyed a ride on Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The tweet identified the man, whose Magic Band was visible on his wrist, as the culprit.
Just a few hours later, however, the department issued a retraction, tweeting, “It has come to light that the person shown in our prior post is NOT associated with the burglary in Winter Park. The information initially provided to us regarding the photo was deemed to be inaccurate. We apologize to the person pictured and to anyone who was adversely affected.”
