A former NFL running back has been charged in the murder of a 5-year-old girl.
Las Vegas resident Cierre Wood, 28, was originally arrested and charged with child abuse on Wednesday. A woman, Amy Taylor, was also arrested on the same charge. Wood’s charge was upgraded to first-degree murder Thursday after the medical examiner determined La-Rayah Davis died from injuries she suffered as a result of the abuse, police say. Details of the incident, or of the relationship between the three, have not been revealed.
After playing college football for Notre Dame, Wood played for the Texans, the Patriots and the Bills before being recruited by the Canadian Football League’s Montreal Alouettes. His football career ended when the Alouettes released him in 2017.
