In a controversial move, the Alabama House of Representatives on Tuesday voted to approve what’s being called the country’s most restrictive abortion law.
As written, the bill would make it illegal to perform an abortion unless the mother’s life is at risk. Violators could be sentenced to life in prison. The bill does not make exceptions for victims of rape or incest.
The bill, which passed 74-3, will now be sent to the Alabama Senate for approval.
