The Covington Catholic High School student who went viral earlier this year when he appeared to mock a Native American man has filed a $275 million lawsuit against NBC.
The suit, filed Wednesday by 16-year-old Nicholas Sandmann, claims the network “created a false narrative by portraying the confrontation as a hate crime committed by Nicholas.” It’s the third lawsuit filed by the teen’s legal team, following similar actions against the Washington Post for $250 million and CNN for $275 million.
Sandmann received national attention in January, when he and some classmates were caught on video confronting Native American elder Nathan Phillips outside the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C. His attorney says the video was taken out of context because Sandmann was wearing a MAGA cap at the time.
