(CHICAGO) — Chicago Police have arrested three girls accused of beating a special needs girl.

The beating was captured on video and later posted to social media. It went viral and helped police in the case.

Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson says this type of behavior has to stop.

“The hate that we all saw is an affront to who we are as Chicagoans,” Johnson said at a Thursday afternoon briefing. “It stands in direct conflict to the city of broad shoulders. We all have to work together to help ensure that this type of behavior is rooted out of our communities and our city.”

The three teens appeared in juvenile court Thursday morning and have been charged with aggravated battery and mob action. Police say the investigation is ongoing and that other arrests could be made. At least five people were seen in the video hitting the girl.
