5 years later, NYPD officer fired

One business day after a New York judge recommended that white NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo be fired – he was.

Police Commissioner James O’Neills announced the termination Monday – five years after Pantaleo killed an unarmed black man using a banned chokehold.

Recording of Eric Garner pleading, “I can’t breathe,” sparked national outcry and debate.

According to PC O’Neill, Pantaleo “can no longer effectively service as a New York City police officer,” PBS reports.
