The CEO of Uber is catching heat for his controversial statements about the Saudi government and the 2018 murder of journalist Jamaal Khashoggi.
In an Axios interview, Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi called Khashoggi’s murder, which has been linked to the Saudi government, a “mistake” and compared it to last year’s incident when a self-driving Uber vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian in Arizona, saying “I think that people make mistakes, it doesn’t mean that they can never be forgiven.”
Now Khosrowshahi is backpedaling, saying Khashoggi’s murder “was reprehensible and should not be forgotten or excused”.
The Saudi sovereign wealth fund is a major shareholder in Uber, owning about 5.3 percent of the company.
