Bears superstar Khalil Mack was one of several NFL players who celebrated Christmas by paying off layaways at a local Walmart. But now the store says that $20,000 of Mack’s money was misused by workers instead.
In December, Mack donated $80,000 to a Walmart in Fort Pierce, Florida, to pay off customer layaways. Those layaways totalled just $60,000, at which point a group of managers and employees allegedly split the money among themselves.
After an internal investigation, Walmart said the store “did not handle the transaction” the right way and that “corrective action” has been taken. A local TV station says the employees and managers who split the money have all been suspended.
