State Sen. apologizes for sexist comments to female reporter

Michigan State Sen. Peter Lucido has reversed course after initially denying that he owed an apology to a young reporter saying, “I apologize for the misunderstanding yesterday and for offending Allison Donahue.”

In her published first hand account, the 22-year-old reports that she asked the 59-year-old Republican for an interview Tuesday. He said he’d talk after giving remarks to a group of students from the All-Boys De La Salle Catholic high school.

“You’ve heard of De La Salle, right?,” Donahue recalled Lucido asking as she walked away. “You should hang around! You could have a lot of fun with these boys, or they could have a lot of fun with you,” prompting laughs from the students.

The Washington Examiner reports Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey says he’s going to have an “intense and lengthy chat with Lucido – calling the reported comments “very unacceptable.”
