A Kansas woman on Thursday was found guilty of beheading her ex-boyfriend’s mother.

The conviction stems from the 2017 murder of 63-year-old Wichita resident Micki Davis, the mother of Rachael Hilvard’s former boyfriend. Prosecutors say Hilvard, 38, attacked Davis “without provocation” and cut off her head using two steak knives. She then left the dismembered head in a kitchen sink, they say.

During the course of the trial, Hilyard testified she’d gone to Davis’ house to pick up some items she’d left there when she lost her temper. “I just freaked out,” she told jurors. “We were wrestling into the garage, and we got into a fight.” She’s due to be sentenced on March 27th.
