TSA Destroys Musician’s Custom-Made Traditional Instrument

Generally, the worst damage your baggage will go through during airport security screening is a broken zipper. Unfortunately, a prominent Malian musician probably wishes that’s all that would have happened.

Ballaké Sissoko accuses Transportation Security Administration staffers at John F. Kennedy International Airport of destroying his “impossible-to-replace” traditional instrument.

In an email to NBC News , Sissoko says that TSA workers would normally just open its case, then close it back up. “This time, they disassembled and broke it,” he adds.

While Sissoko is hoping for an apology for the “terrible situation,” a TSA spokesperson denies the incident occurred.
