A major Latino group has announced it is endorsing Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders ahead of Nevada’s caucus. This is the first time the grassroots group, Mijente, which focuses on Latinx and Chicanx voters, has ever given a presidential endorsement.

Politico says this endorsement will encourage the 1,000 members and those on the 300,000 plus mailing list to vote for Sanders. Mijente leaders also said the group will seek 500 volunteers to drum up support in South Carolina, California and Texas ahead of Super Tuesday.

Marisa Franco, co-founder of Mijente, admits that by endorsing Sanders “We’re not picking our savior. We’re picking our target. We didn’t pick him to be the fixer of all things.”
