Intelligence officials briefed House lawmakers last week revealing that Russia will once again meddle in the Presidential election.

According to a report by the New York Times , the goal is to keep the current administration in power, while also attacking election infrastructure and using social media to sow distrust in the process’ integrity.

Election security official Shelby Pierson described the effort as the Russians having a preference in who controls the White House, which an administration national security official told CNN is a mischaracterization.

Republicans House Intelligence Committee members sitting in the meeting “questioned the validity of the information,” notes CBS News .
