Forecasters Predict ‘Above Average’ Hurricane Season In The Atlantic For 2020

As if state and federal officials don’t have enough on their plates with the pandemic, forecasters predict this year’s hurricane season in the Atlantic will be “above average”.

Tropical expert Dr. Phil Klotzbach from Colorado State University dropped the news on Thursday while publishing his annual report.

Using a combination of statistical and dynamical models, ocean temps, and historical data, Klotzbach expects 16 named storms and eight hurricanes – four major – this season, up from the 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes considered to be normal.

Klotzbach plans to update his forecasts in July and August with new data points to help improve its accuracy.
