On an average day this time last year, 2.3 million people would pass through airports in the US. But on Wednesday, TSA agents screened less than 95,000.

According to multiple metrics, air travel in America is down by a whopping 96 percent thanks to the coronavirus outbreak.

With no one taking to the friendly skies, industry group Airlines for America reveals that the carriers have cut 71 percent of their capacity, down to 31,000 commercial flights per day from the normal 111,000.

The lack of bookings has also caused smaller regional airlines to suspend operations or to close.
