US Congress Approves China Sanctions over Crackdown

The U.S. Congress approved The Uigher Human Rights Act, 413-1, on Wednesday, that would impose sanctions on China for the oppression of Uigher Muslims and other Muslim groups in the province of Xinjiang.

The U.N. says there are more than one million Muslims detained in camps in China. China denies the mistreatment of Muslims, saying that the camps provide “vocational training”. Chinese officials will not allow independent inspections of the camps, according to Reuters .

Speaker Nancy Pelosi shared her support of the bill saying “Beijing’s barbaric actions targeting the Uigher people are an outrage to the collective conscience of the world.” President Trump is expected to sign the bill.
