Around 70 Arrested in NYC Protests

Around 70 people were arrested in New York City Thursday as crowds defied state orders on public gatherings to protest the death of Minneapolis, Minnesota’s George Floyd, according to Fox 5 New York .

Protests grew chaotic around Union Square as police, enforcing social gathering rules, faced off against demonstrators chanting “I can’t breathe.” Social media video show demonstrators being wrestled to the ground as some protestors shoved officers and screamed insults.

The protests emerged despite New York’s COVID-19 regulations prohibiting gatherings of 10 people or more and require social distancing and mask-wearing. The Coronavirus has killed more than 21,000 in New York City.
