Republicans Roll Out Bill that Would Block Pay for Lawmakers Who Vote by Proxy

A group of House Republicans have sponsored a bill that would withhold the pay of House members who vote by a proxy and not in-person.

This legislation comes after Democrats unveiled a plan that would let one member to vote on another member’s behalf. Democrats say the recent adopted proxy rules are necessary due to the pandemic.

The Washington Times wrote that so far, 73 members have signed up to have others vote on their behalf. Republicans have reminded the House that the Constitution requires that a majority of members must be present to vote on legislation.
