(CHICAGO) — Secretary of State Jesse White is asking all of his employees to get vaccinated by September 1 or undergo regular testing.
The new policy comes just a day after Gov. J.B. Pritzker ordered some state workers to get vaccinated by October 4. Those employees include workers in state prisons, veterans homes and other congregate facilities.
The Illinois Department of Public Health today reported 3,048 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus. It’s the first time daily cases have topped 3,000 since early May.
White says employees who can’t show proof of vaccination by the beginning of next month will be required to undergo a COVID-19 test every other week.
The secretary of state’s office employs some 3,600 people.
