(CHICAGO) — It’s a huge loss for Chicago music and radio fans after Lin Brehmer, longtime radio host at WXRT-FM, died Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

The station confirmed his death saying in part that he, “passed away peacefully with his wife and son by his side.”

Brehmer fought prostate cancer for years. Last July he announced that the cancer had spread and took a took a leave of absence from the station but briefly returned in November and December.

Born in Queens, NY, Brehmer first started with WXRT in 1984 as music director and would later find himself on air at the station in 1991 where he would host mornings before a shift to afternoons a few years ago. He fully embraced Chicago, was a diehard Cubs fan and had a connection with his audience that endeared him to them.

Remembrances and condolences flooded social media upon word of his passing. WXRT held a daylong remembrance on their airwaves featuring past and present hosts, producers and staff. There is no word yet on a public remembrance.

Lin Brehmer was 68.
