NU Hazing: Concerns Were Raised, say Attorneys

(CHICAGO) — As attorneys continue to field complaints from former Northwestern athletes over allegations of hazing and abuse, one law firm has learned that concerns expressed by those athletes weren’t taken seriously.

Patrick Salvi with the law firm Salvi, Schostok and Pritchard tells The Steve Cochran Show on WLS-AM 890 that those players he has talked to were shot down when they raised concerns.

“Even those that did frequently were suppressed,” Salvi said. “And so whether it went one way or the other it’s a very difficult situation when an entire institution and an entire athletic department, which we’ve learned as a result of widespread institutional problems permeating various different sports, it’s a very, very difficult situation and we’ve heard numerous stories about how this was brought to the attention of higher-ups and ignored or worse, there was retaliation.”

Just how far the fallout will go is anyone’s guess but there are some now calling for the firing of not only the athletic director, but Northwestern’s president.
