The Shedd Aquarium announcing plans today to renovate and upgrade many of the exhibits, gardens and learning spaces by 2027. The 500 million dollar renovation will take place over the next four years and is expected to be complete by the aquarium’s 100th birthday in 2030. The Shedd will be open during the construction. Changes include the four acre gardens outside into a living classroom, the North Gallery will be converted to a forty foot tunnel and there will be a new whalefall exhibit that will showcase what happens on the ocean floor after a whale dies. The renovation is expected to create over 2000 jobs.
