Christopher Walken does not rely on technology, in fact, he mostly avoids it.
The 81-year-old actor admitted during an interview with The Wall Street Journal that he doesn’t own a cellphone and watches TV only through a satellite dish on his roof. Further, to view his performance in the first season of the acclaimed drama “Severance,” Apple had to send him DVD copies of the show.
“I don’t have technology. I only have a satellite dish on my house. So I’ve seen ‘Severance’ on DVDs that they’re good enough to send me,” Walken said. “I don’t have a cellphone. I’ve never emailed or, what do you call it, Twittered.”
Walken’s performance in the first season of “Severance,” which he described as a “very special job,” earned him an Emmy nomination.
“It was mysterious but funny and scary, which I’ve always felt was a good combination. Then there was the fact of [series director] Ben Stiller. I was in a play with him 30 years ago, and his mother and father were friends of mine,” he said. “There’s John Turturro. I’ve known him for 40 years, and we were young actors together. When you know somebody for a long time, it shows. You can tell that these actors like each other.”
During the interview, Walken, who played Emperor Shaddam IV in Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two,” also discussed whether he would reprise his role in the third installment of the franchise.
“I don’t think I’ve ever finished a job and knew what the next one was,” Walken said. “‘Why did you make that choice?’ I hear that a lot. And the truth is I don’t make choices. I take jobs. I take the next best thing. And that has to do with art, who you’re going to be with, sometimes with the location, how much they’re going to pay you. All sorts of things. I wish I could make choices.”
Walken previously discussed how he watched “Severance” on DVD, not streaming, during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live earlier this year. The topic came about when asked if he has watched the episodes he’s in.
“Not all of them. I can’t. I don’t have the equipment.” he said, according to People.
