Conservatives Have Tough Go Deciding on Colleges, Our Increasingly Secular World Challenges Biblical Truth
May 1, 2025, is here.
Nationally, families are making one of the most significant decisions in a young person’s life — choosing a college.
However, for Christian families, this decision is about far more than academics, campus life, or career paths.
It’s about faith, values, and preparing students to stand firm in a world often challenging biblical truth.
The Reality Facing Christian Families
As students prepare to enter the next chapter of their lives, many Christian parents are wrestling with a difficult reality: most universities today do not reflect the values their children were raised with.
In fact, many institutions have become places where biblical truth is not just ignored — it’s often openly challenged.
From classrooms to dormitory life, many institutions have become places of woke indoctrination: faith is mocked, truth is relative, students are pressured to conform to progressive ideologies.
Rather than encouraging students to deepen their faith, these environments promote beliefs contradicting Christian convictions.
For young believers, this can create deep confusion and isolation at a time when their foundation should be growing stronger.
For families who have invested years in nurturing their child’s faith, it can feel disheartening to send them into an environment that may pull them away from it.
That’s why the decision of where to attend college carries so much weight — it’s not just about academics or career paths.
It’s about protecting what matters most: a young person’s faith, convictions, and calling.
Christianity’s Resurgence Among Youth
For years, the left has pushed the idea that Christianity is fading in America.
The rise of the “nones” — those who claim no religious affiliation — was seen as unstoppable. Secular voices predicted that faith would gradually disappear, especially among younger generations.
However, that narrative is collapsing.
According to a recent Pew Research Center survey, the decline of Christianity in the U.S. has plateaued.
Even The New York Times, Feb. 26, 2025, acknowledged the shift, reporting that young adults are responsible for halting the decline of Christianity in America.
When a publication which seemingly downplays religious influence concedes that faith is not only holding steady but is seeing a resurgence among young people, it signals a cultural shift which can’t be ignored.
One of the reasons for this shift is that young conservatives are choosing faith-based institutions where they can strengthen their beliefs rather than be pressured to abandon them.
Leaders like Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, have played a role in emboldening Christian students, encouraging them to stand firm in their faith even in the face of overwhelming secular influences.
The battle for faith and freedom is happening on college campuses, and students are looking for universities that stand firm in biblical truth.
What are Parents and Students to Do?
At a time when the American university system leans further left than ever — promoting moral relativism, gender ideology, and hostility toward biblical truth — parents must approach Decision Day with eyes wide open:
First, look for schools that defend, not dismantle your values.
Colleges and universities are not neutral.
Each one is shaped by specific ideologies, philosophies, and global views.
It’s essential that Christian students choose schools that clearly uphold biblical truth — in the classroom, in campus culture, and in leadership.
Make sure your convictions won’t just be tolerated—they’ll be encouraged and reinforced.
Know the University’s mission, vision, and values, and ensure they align with your own.
A university should partner with parents in reinforcing the foundation that’s already been laid — not working to undo it.
If a school can’t clearly articulate its stance on faith and culture, that’s a red flag.
Don’t Say “Yes,” Until You’ve Asked Hard Questions.
Before making any final decision, ask the questions that truly matter:
- Are professors aligned with the university’s faith commitments?
- Does student life reflect Christian values or just use Christian language?
- How does the university handle today’s most pressing cultural issues?
Such questions reveal whether the school’s convictions go deeper than its branding.
Many institutions once built on Christian convictions are now bastions of liberal ideologies.
Think Eternally, Not Just Academically
College lasts four years, but the influence lasts a lifetime. Don’t just chase prestige or programs. Choose the place that will help you grow in your calling, strengthen your convictions, and prepare you to lead with truth in a world in desperate need of it.
Your future isn’t just about a degree — it’s about who you become in the process.
Where you go matters — but who you become matters even more.
