(CHICAGO) — After a violent weekend in Chicago that saw at least 54 people shot, seven fatally, Gov. JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson continue to deny federal help.
This as President Donald Trump is expected to make an announcement Monday afternoon about a step up in ICE operations in Chicago and perhaps activating the National guard.
Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) says something must be done and says the mayor is full of excuses and isn’t talking about victims at all.
“Him and those that think like him should be ashamed of themselves because in communities like mine on the southwest side … not a peep for those people. Not a peep for those victims,” Lopez told the Ray Stevens show on WLS.
Naval Station Great Lakes has been preparing to be the base of operations for more ICE agents.
