(CHICAGO) — The Cook County Department of Public Health has confirmed the third suburban Cook County measles case this year. The case was identified in an adult whose vaccination status is unknown. Public health officials believe the case was acquired from exposure to the last reported measles case announced on September 16. CCDPH is working to identify and notify people who may have been exposed to this new case.
Officials say the exposure happened the evening of September 24 at the Aldi store located at 4820 Cal Sag Rd. in Crestwood.
Measles is a dangerous and potentially deadly disease, is highly contagious and can remain in the air for up to 2 hours after the infectious person has left the area. A brief exposure of 15 minutes can result in measles transmission.
