(Springfield, IL) — As the veto session rolls along in Springfield, lawmakers are on track to take up a transit funding bill.
State lawmakers are running out of time to pass a bill that would avoid major cuts to the CTA, Metra and Pace.
Lawmakers hope to clear the transit bill Wednesday, though it’s not clear if that’s going to happen.
The House has a draft that they believe can be merged with one the Illinois Senate passed in the spring.
The so called “pizza tax,” a retail delivery tax to fund transit appears to be off the table, at least for now.
Meanwhile, Chicago lawmakers were in Springfield Tuesday lobbying for Mayor Brandon Johnson’s corporate head tax. The governor is not a fan of the proposal. On Tuesday, Johnson pointed the finger at Gov. JB Pritzker.
“If the State of Illinois wasn’t gobbling up all the revenue from corporations through loop holes and diversions, we wouldn’t, quite frankly, need this conversation,” Johnson said.
The last day of the veto session is Thursday.
