(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — President Trump says there is no “I” in team and is urging countries that rely on oil flowing through the Strait of Hormuz to help secure it.
“It’d be interesting to see what country wouldn’t help us with a very small endeavor,” Trump said yesterday. He is calling on allies and rivals alike, from China to Japan and the UK, to send ships to protect the critical waterway. Trump said countries have been contacted but would not confirm who is in or out, saying it’s too soon to tell.
On Sunday, Trump spoke with the UK prime minister, whom he has criticized as fickle in the fight with Iran. “We will remember,” Trump warned. According to the UK readout, the two discussed reopening the Strait to restore global shipping. U.N. Ambassador Mike Waltz backed the push on Fox News Sunday saying, “It’s absolutely correct for President Trump to call on the world to come help make sure their energy supplies are secure.” Energy Secretary Chris Wright said the conflict could end in weeks.
