(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Senators will debate the SAVE America Act for a fourth day today but Republicans appear to have gained no Democratic support.
The bill needs 60 votes to overcome a filibuster. “If a body of 100 people can’t find 60 votes for an issue that’s an 80-20 issue, that’s a real disgrace,” said Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) on Fox Business.
A weekend vote is expected on an amendment which may be a poison pill. Republicans aim to force votes on barring men from women’s sports, restricting transgender surgery for minors, and limiting mail-in voting. Most Democrats support mail-in ballots. “During the 2025 election, 98% of all the Coloradans who voted by mail…And Colorado didn’t just make voting accessible. We made it secure,” said Sen. John Hickenlooper (D-CO). Even if the bill dies, Republicans will use this weekend’s votes against Democrats in the fall elections.
