(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — President Donald J. Trump has ordered the U.S. Navy to blockade the Strait of Hormuz, with CENTCOM set to begin implementation at 9 A.M. Chicago time Monday.
The moves follow collapsed weekend talks, where Iran’s nuclear program derailed negotiations. The blockade could reroute supertankers and shift oil and gas flows toward the U.S. In a Sunday Morning Futures interview, Trump said, “We’re not going to let Iran make money on selling oil to people that they like and not people that they don’t like.”
Acting AG Todd Blanche said the DOJ will prosecute anyone buying or selling sanctioned Iranian oil. Trump added the UK and others are deploying minesweepers to the Strait.
