(WASHINGTON, D.C.) — Vice President J.D. Vance and envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to lead a US delegation headed to Islamabad this week as the ceasefire is scheduled to expire Wednesday. Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson on Monday said Tehran did not have plans yet to attend any talks with the United States, but he did not rule it out.
Pakistan has intensified diplomatic contacts since Sunday with Washington and Tehran to ensure the talks proceed as soon as Tuesday.
Meanwhile, the U.S. seizied an Iranian-flagged cargo ship on Sunday after it tried to bypass the naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman, just outside of the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump saying the USS Spruance “gave them fair warning to stop” before U.S. forces ultimately “stopped them right in their tracks,” with Marines now in custody of the vessel.
This marks the first ship seizure and first time a vessel has been fired upon since the blockade began.
