(CHICAGO) — In a video posted to social media Wednesday morning, Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza officially announced her bid for mayor.
In the video, the 54-year-old Democrat says she had been thinking about jumping into the race for a while. Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas and U.S. Rep. Mike Quigley (D-Chicago) have also expressed interest in running for mayor. Mayor Brandon Johnson has dodged questions about a re-election.
The vibe of the video is one where a strong city should be working for the people that built it.
Mendoza is a Chicago native who served as city clerk before the being elected as comptroller in 2016. She previously served in the state legislature.
