(CHICAGO) — AAA is hosting a free catalytic converter theft prevention event on Saturday, August 15 at its Vernon Hills AAA Car Care Plus facility – 1680 N Milwaukee Avenue, Vernon Hills from 8:30am to 3:30pm.
“These registered labels help deter theft and make stolen parts easier to recover,” said Molly Hart, spokeswoman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “That can save vehicle owners money, time and the hassle of replacing a stolen part.”
Catalytic converters, required in U.S. vehicles since 1975, reduce exhaust emissions. Thieves target them for precious metals including platinum, palladium and rhodium. Replacing a stolen converter can cost $1,000 to $3,500.
