(Kendall County, IL) — Former U.S. House Speaker and longtime Illinois congressman Dennis Hastert passed away over the weekend. He was 84.
The Kendall County Coroner’s Office confirmed Hastert died over the weekend at his home from natural causes.
He sat in the U.S. House from 1987 until his resignation in 2007, having been tapped as speaker in 1999.
His long political career was tarnished by allegations of sexual abuse decades before while he coached wrestling at Yorkville High School.
