(Chicago) At least nine people were hurt in city shootings New Year’s Day, including a 14-year-old girl.
Most recently, two males were shot in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side Thursday night.
The two were shot in the 5600 block of West Fullerton about 10:50 p.m., police said. One male had a gunshot wound to the leg, and the other was shot in the side, police said. Both were taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Their conditions were not known at 11:45 p.m.
Earlier in the evening, a man was shot in the face in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side.
The 22-year-old was in the 5000 block of West Fulton at 7:30 p.m. when someone fired shots from a passing dark sedan, police said. He was being treated at Stroger Hospital for a gunshot wound to the left side of his face and multiple wounds to the abdomen, police said. His condition was not available late Thursday.
A source said the man is a documented gang member.
A man and a 14-year-old girl were hurt in a shooting just after 1 p.m. in the South Side Woodlawn neighborhood.
A group walked up to the man, 21, and the girl in the 6300 block of South Cottage Grove, and someone opened fire, police said. The man was shot in the back and taken to Stroger Hospital. The girl was being treated for an arm wound at Comer Children’s Hospital, police said. Both of their conditions had stabilized.
A police source said the man who was shot is affiliated with a gang, and it appears the girl may not have been the intended target.
Another afternoon shooting left a man seriously wounded in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
The 35-year-old man was in the 6600 block of South California at 12:25 p.m. when he was shot in the nose, police said. He was taken in serious condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, police said. Further details about the circumstances of the shooting were not immediately available.
Several hours earlier, a 19-year-old man was hurt in a drive-by shooting in the West Garfield Park neighborhood on the West Side.
The man was walking in the 4400 block of West Wilcox about 4:30 a.m. when a light-colored car passed by and a passenger fired shots, police said. The man walked into Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back, police said. His condition was stabilized.
A man was shot outside a Humboldt Park nightclub on the West Side about 3:10 a.m.
The 33-year-old was walking out of the club in the 3900 block of West Chicago when someone fired shots from a passing white van, police said. He was shot in the foot and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
The year’s first shooting happened overnight in the Ashburn neighborhood on the Southwest Side about 2:30 a.m.
A 21-year-old woman was with a male in a parked minivan in the 7900 block of South St. Louis when a dark car pulled up, and someone inside opened fire, police said. The car was then driven northbound on St. Louis.
The woman, who was sitting in the passenger seat, was shot in the leg and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where her condition had stabilized, police said.
