(Chicago) The Chicago Bulls have announced that they’ve hired Fred Hoiberg as the next Bulls head coach. Hoiberg, who leaves his head coaching job at Iowa State, says he like the Bulls’ roster.
“When I look at this young group, I think there’s players that not only had great seasons as rookies and younger players but also a group that I think has great potential to be excellent players in this league,” Hoiberg said. “You have former all-stars, you have current all-stars you have players that I think could eventually become all-stars.”
Hoiberg played for the Bulls from 1999 -2003. Speaking to members of the media after being introduced by Bulls GM Gar Forman, Hoiberg paid tribute to former head coach Tom Thibodeau, who was fired by the Bulls last week.
“I think Tom Thibodeau was an excellent, excellent basketball coach and I think he instilled a lot of unbelievable qualities in this team that hopefully I can build on,” Hoiberg said.
Forman says he and Jerry Reinsdorf visited with Hoiberg last week to gauge his interest and talked seriously over this past weekend. They came to a final agreement Monday night.
