(CHICAGO) When a man tried to abduct a young girl Monday morning in the North Side Avondale neighborhood, her friend saved her by grabbing hold of her ankles and not letting go until the man gave up and drove away.
It happened about 7:20 a.m. Monday when the boy and girl were walking in the 3000 block of North Francisco, an alert from Chicago Police said.
A male suspect grabbed one of the girls and “dragged her towards a parked white van which had the rear doors open,” police said. That’s when the boy “grabbed the legs of the victim and began yelling.”
The offender finally let go of the girl, though he did grab some of her personal belongings before getting back in the van the white van, and driving away westbound, police said.
The suspect is described as a white Hispanic between 20 and 30 years old, 5-foot9 to 6-foot-2 and 190-210 pounds. He was clean-shaven with dark curly hair, and was wearing a black and white Adidas jacket and black construction boots.
The vehicle was described as a white work van with no side windows and a large dent on the front passenger side, police said.
Police suggest walking in groups and calling 911 to report anyone suspicious.
