(ELK GROVE VILLAGE) A manufacturing company in the northwest suburbs was cited by OSHA after a worker’s finger was crushed by a 25-ton power press.
Inspectors from the U.S. Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued 14 serious safety violations to Topy Precision Manufacturing, Inc., according to a statement from the department.
The employee, who had been on the job with the company for 10 days, was injured when the machine guards of a 25-ton power press “failed to work properly,” according to the department.
The employee’s right ring finger was crushed and the company faces up to $61,695 in penalties, the department said.
The statement didn’t specify when the employee was injured, but said during an OSHA inspection last January, an inspector also found “numerous electrical hazards” and workers who lacked proper training.
