The shooting happened at 5 p.m. in an alley near Lincoln Highway and Western Avenue. The task-force investigation was led by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives with help from the Chicago Police Department, according to Special Agent Tom Ahern, spokesman for the ATF.

During the investigation, one of three suspects pointed a gun at the agents and officers, prompting at least one of the federal agents to fire shots, Ahern said.

Two of the suspects — whose genders, ages and names were not released — were shot. They were taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Ahern said.

No one else was injured.

The third suspect was taken into custody and was scheduled to appear in federal court Tuesday morning. The other two will also appear in court, provided they are released from the hospital, Ahern said.
