(EVANSTON) A 16-year-old boy has been charged with shooting a man Wednesday afternoon in north suburban Evanston.
The teen was charged with aggravated discharge of a firearm, two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a firearm by a street gang member, and no valid FOID card, all felonies; and misdemeanor reckless conduct, according to a statement from Evanston police.
The 22-year-old victim told police he pulled over and got out the vehicle about 3:54 p.m. in the 1700 block of Emerson Street, according to police.
The teen, who was walking westbound on Emerson, pulled out a handgun and fired several shots at him, police said.
The man was shot in the thigh, and a friend drove him to Evanston Hospital, police said. His injury is not considered life-threatening.
Officers responding to the shooting stopped two teens in the 1900 block of Darrow Avenue and recovered a .380 caliber Kel-Tec handgun from one of them, police said. Both were taken to the police department for questioning, and one was later released without charges.
The other teen, who lives in Evanston, was charged and taken to the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center, police said. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.
