(FRANKFORT) Parents in south suburban Frankfort are reacting with sadness after the Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 school board voted Thursday night to close Lincoln-Way North High School.
The closing will take place after the upcoming 2015-2016 school year. The school was built in 2007, but then the economic recession hit the local housing market, and the school never was able to sustain the enrollment it needed to survive.
District 210 officials say in retrospect, it was probably a mistake to build the school in the first place.
The district’s three other schools — Lincoln-Way West, Lincoln-Way Central and Lincoln-Way East, have also been plagued by low enrollment.
