City Hall is fooling with stop lights again and Bill Cameron says drivers won’t like it.
First the city shortened yellow lights to send you more of those hundred dollar red light camera tickets. Now, the mayor’s transportation commissioner Rebecca Scheinfeld says they’re going to manipulate green lights for the sake of CTA bus flow next year on Ashland and on Western Avenues.
“Transit signal priority upgrades traffic signals to be able to talk to the buses so that the signals can hold green lights longer when buses are approaching an intersection or shorten red lights when buses are stopped at the intersection, especially if buses are running behind schedule,” Scheinfeld said. “This improves bus reliability and it also improves overall traffic flow, benefiting general traffic.”
It’s all part of new express CTA bus service on Ashland and Western. The express buses will only stop every half mile.
