(FOX LAKE) Several northwest suburban schools are on lockdown Tuesday morning as police conduct a manhunt for two armed men in Fox Lake.
Grant Community High School at 285 E. Grand Ave. in Fox Lake is currently on lockdown, according to a statement posted to the school’s website.
“A police matter is occurring in the community and for the safety of our students and staff, they have requested we remain locked down,” according to the statement.
A message on the website of St. Bede School at 36399 Wilson Rd. in Ingleside said that school is also on lockdown. The school said all students are safe and parents are asked not to call the school.
The school was notified by Fox Lake police to “please place schools on lockdown. We have two subjects in the area of Sayton and Honing armed.”
School District 15 in McHenry said on its website that all schools are on soft lockdown “as a precaution” due to”police activity in Fox Lake.”
Additionally, a Metra Milwaukee District/North Line train is stopped at Long Lake because of police activity, according to Metra. Train No. 2109 was scheduled to arrive in Fox Lake at 10:17 a.m.
Fox Lake police said “officers are out on a security measure” but would not comment further.
Unconfirmed scanner reports said police are conducting a manhunt for two or three armed men after a police officer was shot.
