(DARIEN) Police in west suburban Darien say the attack on a Sikh man this week was a hate crime.
Darien police say Inderjit Singh Mukker, who is a U.S. citizen, was driving on Cass Avenue in Darien Tuesday when a man driving another car pulled up to his and began shouting ethnic slurs. Mukker says the man shouted “Terrorist, go back to your country Bin Laden”.
Mukker has a beard and was wearing a turban. He says he pulled over after man repeatedly cut him off. At that point he says the man approached his car and began punching him in the face, knocking him unconscious, and breaking his cheekbone.
Police are investigating the incident as a hate crime. The Chicago Tribune reports police have identified a suspect but so far no charges have been filed.
