Indiana Republican U.S. Senator Dan Coats is criticizing his fellow Republicans in the House, who are setting the stage for a government shutdown later this month. Coats told “The Big John Howell Show” on WLS, that House conservatives, who are threatening to shut down government if Planned Parenthood is not de-funded, are making a big mistake. “Well the GOP has tried that twice before, it’s been a disaster both times. It’s one thing to choose a tactic if you can succeed. This thing doesn’t have a one in a million chance to succeed”.

Coats also says even if the House cuts Planned Parenthood funding, the Senate is unlikely to follow through. Coats told WLS, “Look I’m a strong, strong, pro-lifer. I want to de-fund planned parenthood, but shutting down the government is something Barack Obama’s gonna sit back and laugh and say ‘Yeah, go ahead and stick the knife in your back one more time. You’re 0 for 2’ “.
Conservatives have mounted a campaign against Planned Parenthood after the release of undercover videos alleging that some agents of the group sell body parts of aborted fetuses.
The Republican-led House Judiciary Committee has opened hearings on the issue. Democrats say the secretly recorded videos were unfairly edited to show wrongdoing by Planned Parenthood, when in fact no such wrongdoing occurred.
