Businesses beware … there’s a new scam targeting Illinois corporations.
Secretary of State Jesse White says a firm called the “Illinois Council for Corporations” is contacting businesses in an attempt to collect a $125 fee to fill out a corporation’s “Annual Minutes Records Form.” White says it’s a scam targeting businesses state wide.
“Yes it looks like an official document but there’s only one time and one form that you fill out indicating that you want to get registered with the Secretary of State’s office,” White said.
White says there is no fee due to the state for annual minutes. The annual report fee is normally the only fee a corporation would pay to the Secretary of State Business Services Department.
White says Illinois corporations should be on alert for this and other similar attempts to confuse business owners about state law.
He says business owners who believe they’ve been targeted by this scam should file a complaint with the Attorney General’s Office.
