(CHICAGO) President Obama Friday rejected the Keystone XL pipeline project saying it wouldn’t lead to vast job creation as many Republicans had hoped and could have negative environmental impacts.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin (D-IL) agrees with the presidents decision and questions why it took so long. He also questions if it’s worth it to refine oil from the tar sands if the price of oil is down.
Meanwhile, U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk (R-IL), who supported the pipeline project, lamented what might have been.
“It [would’ve been] a good thing for the long term security of the United States,” Kirk said.
