Legislation being pushed in the State Senate aims to make sure Veterans get Veteran’s Day off from work.
State Sen. John Mulroe (D-Chicago) sponsored the bill. He says he got the idea from one of his constituents.
”He said, hey senator, I’m a veteran and where I work the veterans don’t get off…there are people that work in the city, state, county and federal government that are getting off and they’re not veterans and he said I think that’s wrong,” Mulroe said.
Mulroe says there may be revisions to his initial proposal but as of now he’s trying to eliminate opposition by offering a tax credit to businesses that let their veterans take the day off. The employee would also have top prove they served.
