(CHICAGO) The Chicago Skyway was shut down in both directions early Thursday because of high winds.
Northbound and southbound lanes of the Skyway were shut down between 91st Street and 106th Street about 2:20 a.m. because of heavy winds, according to Chicago Police. It was not immediately clear when they would be reopened.
Some of the metal roofing covering the Skyway bridge could be seen dislodged and flapping in the wind.
A wind advisory is in effect for the Chicago area until 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Sustained westerly winds between 25 and 35 mph and gusts up to 50 mph could cause property damage and make driving difficult.
Service on the CTA’s Green and Pink lines was also experiencing disruptions Thursday morning. Inbound trains on both lines are only going as far as Clinton because of a track circuit mechanism failure, according to CTA spokesman Brian Steele. Riders can board free shuttle buses to continue to the Clark/Lake station.
Outbound service on both the Green and Pink lines is unaffected by the track problem, Steele said.
